SC HOUSE GARDEN

SC HOUSE GARDEN

ilica, Izmir

2023

This small garden in Ilıca was originally covered in lawn which was water-demanding and high-maintenance. The redesign focused on creating a Mediterranean garden that could thrive naturally in the dry, coastal conditions.

Working with the site’s existing mastic and olive trees, the new layout introduced a permeable gravel pathway and layered plantings of drought-tolerant Mediterranean species. Seasonal perennials and flowering shrubs now provide color and texture throughout the year, while evergreen species along the boundary wall create privacy and structure.

The planting palette reflects the character of the region, resilient and fragrant through every season, transforming what was once a demanding lawn into a garden that sustains itself with minimal water and care.
